May We Propose a Toast?

Filed Under:

Whether you’re among family, friends, or acquaintances, giving a toast is a great way to bring a sense of real occasion to a gathering. The thought of giving one may be intimidating, but if you have a few lighthearted, warm sentiments at hand you’ll be clinking glasses in no time.

Here are some of our favorite toasts for the holidays:

A holiday wish—
May you never forget
what is worth remembering
or remember
what is best forgotten.

Small cheer and great welcome makes a merry feast.
—William Shakespeare

Here’s to the day of goodwill, cold weather, and warm hearts!

Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every year find you a better man.
Benjamin Franklin

In the New Year, may your right hand always be stretched out in friendship, but never in want.

Here’s to holly and ivy hanging up, and to something wet in every cup.
—Ogden Nash

May all your troubles last as long as your New Year’s resolutions!
—Joey Adams

May friendship, like wine, improve as time advances,
and may we always have old wine, old friends, and young cares.

May you get all your wishes but one,
so that you will always have something to strive for.

May all your joys be true joys, and all your pain champagne.
