A Parting Piece of Knowledge…
Though we’re enthusiasts of all things sea-inspired, driftwood designs are an especial favorite. Authentic driftwood is made of fallen trees that have been found along the shore of an ocean, a lake, or a river—though many of our driftwood-esque pieces feature regular wood that has been finished to mimic the elements-washed look. The material plays an important role in the natural ecosystem, serving as a shelter for species of all types, and its role in mythology is even more interesting: According to ancient Norse legend, the first two humans—a male and a female named Ask and Embla—were formed from two pieces of driftwood.
