What We’ve Been Up To…

Part of what makes artwork so compelling is its backstory and being able to see the world from the perspective of the artist behind it. We’ve been fortunate to connect with a number of the creators whose work we sell, and their methods and thought processes make their art all the more interesting.

Drew Doggett’s transporting images are a study in masterful photography and showcase his dedication to the preservation of the natural world. Mary H. Case’s soothing works reference the misty wetlands of her native South. Judith Gigliotti also takes cues from family roots—her husband’s Italian heritage, specifically—with her joyful photographs of the lush Italian seaside. We love the lively, pattern-rich prints from Emma Williams, which serve as a love letter to the quaint seaside towns of Cornwall. And for Caroline Wright, inspiration is of a more abstract variety: She weaves together ideas of color, sound, and movement to create her dynamic works.

Each artist is vastly different, but all are champions of expressing beauty and creativity.

A Parting Piece of Knowledge…

In this age of selfies, it’s worth remembering that portraiture dates back to the ancient Egyptians, who used rudimentary methods to depict their deities and nobility. The Europeans elevated portraiture to a high art form, when monarchs hired court painters to depict members of the royal family. Today portraiture extends far beyond painting, and many of the most famous modern portraits are photographs. No matter the method—and whether the subject is a family member, notable figure, or complete stranger—portraits are the perfect way to add personality and character to the home.
