Spring Ahead

Flora, fauna, and new neutrals: These are our building blocks for reinvigorating our homes this spring. And not just for spring—we love how easy it is to adapt these elements to every other season as well.

Textural contrasts keep a room with a highly curated palette from feeling flat. Here, the woven jute of the Coastal Living Large Seaside Pendant balances the sleek wood of the Jasper Square Coffee Table. The assorted linen, cotton, and velvet pillows add more contrast. Find the artwork here.

Blue, Green, and White All Over

Adding white—or ivory, cream, or pale taupe—to a room is a tried-and-true way to segue from winter to spring. Swap out the winter’s jewel-tone pillows for paler versions, and voilà! Your room immediately feels lighter and brighter.

This year, though, we’re leaning into blues and greens as spring-friendly hues. Nature certainly considers them neutrals: Every flower, regardless of color, dazzles among verdant grasses and an azure sky.

Given that our best-selling sofas are the Margot in Moss Green and the Brooke in Light Blue, many people has already embraced using green or blue to anchor a room year-round. If your room or style doesn’t lend itself to that, sprinkle in smaller blue or green moments: pillows and throws, of course, but also bedding, vases and vessels, rugs, art. Blue or green doesn’t have to be the dominant color in any of these. Crisp white bedding with embroidered green trim or white table lamps with blue stripes get the spring-fresh message across beautifully.

Those who avoid color year-round can give their home a spring refresh simply by playing up lighter materials and organic textures. Replace a wool rug with a sisal or jute one, add a raffia-clad console table in your entry, or replace your leather poufs with linen ones, and you’ll see exactly what we mean.

Adding jots of green, such as the petite Middle Kingdom vases on the shelves, might be all you need to update an already bright space. And don’t overlook the power of plants; if you lack a green thumb, consider the statement-making Faux Bird-of-Paradise Tree shown above. Find the dining chairs here.

Botany and Zoology

Plants and floral arrangements, real or faux, are synonymous with spring decor. Ditto floral upholstery and linens. These encompass timeless tiles and chinoiserie motifs, block prints and voluptuous chintzes, all of which are fabulous and can be adapted for year-round chic. This spring, though, consider introducing floral motifs in new ways: a table lamp with hand-painted blooms, a mirror encircled with white metal daisies, an accent table shaped like a lily pad

At the same time, don’t ignore your animal instincts. Tiger stripes, leopard spots, and the like have long signified glamour, but when rendered in unexpected hues (hello, baby-blue!), they bring a dash of whimsy too. Beyond fabrics and rugs that mimic animal prints, consider those that depict the animals themselves. Wallpaper featuring cavorting zebras can be both elegant and lighthearted; so can furniture upholstered with an illustrated jungle scene. Mouth-blown glass birds and equine figurines are ideal marriages of the organic and the artisanal.

And since home is where the art is, consider adding some vintage botanical prints, lush landscapes, or wildlife photography to your walls. After all, there’s no better time to seek out new viewpoints than a new season.

Beyond animal-print fabrics and wildlife photography, consider fanciful table linens (like these Birds of Paradise Cocktail Napkins) or elegant tableware (such as the Country Estate setting) to introduce flora and fauna into your decor.
