The Honest Company is the brainchild of actress Jessica Alba and co-founder Christopher Gavigan, both parents of small children and passionate about the need for healthy, eco-friendly, affordable (and stylish) products for families.
When it came to outfitting the lobby of the company’s new L.A. headquarters, we were thrilled when Jessica, a long-time vintage-lover, turned to us. We couldn’t be happier with the result, and we sat down with Jessica to chat about the process and our shared addiction to flea-market shopping.
The space sticks to a limited color palette of blue, black, and white, with eye-catching mirrored surfaces, like the pair of 1960s lamps and the vintage console, and hits of wood for a bit of tonal warmth.
How does the lobby represent The Honest Company’s philosophy?
“Effective, functional items don’t have to be boring, beige, or blah. That’s why I wanted The Honest Company products to have a modern, fashionable feel—no need to hide things behind cabinet doors! I want employees and visitors to feel happy, inspired, and at home when they walk in and to make themselves comfortable.”
What do you think vintage adds to a space?
“As much as I love color and style, I also wanted the items we bring into our office to be safe and sustainable. One way to accomplish this is by going vintage. When you furnish a space with secondhand furniture, it’s better for the environment, and it gives the room a one-of-a-kind feel.”

Do you have vintage pieces in your own home?
“I’m an admitted Craigslist and flea-market addict. I love hunting for the perfect diamond in the rough of vintage treasure—especially Mid-Century Modern and Hollywood Regency-style pieces. Everything from my living room couches to lighting fixtures to [daughter] Haven’s nursery dresser to my bathroom vanity are vintage pieces that have been updated with a little love and elbow grease.”

How did you choose a color scheme?
“The Honest Company’s product packaging inspired the color palette. We used the eco-friendly brand Mythic Paint, a no-VOC line. The light teal color is a quarter of the strength of the tinting of our Honest teal.”
